A fine example of 18th-century Chinese export porcelain, richly decorated in the elegant famille rose palette and featuring the desirable brown-glazed reverse often associated with Batavia-style export ware.

Description

This round porcelain saucer features:

• Hand-painted decoration in famille rose enamels
  (pink, green, iron red, blue, and aubergine tones)

• Central floral and vase motif

• Surrounding blossoming branches

• Geometric pink border decoration

• Brown-glazed reverse (often referred to as Batavia brown)

• Unglazed foot ring

The composition and color palette are characteristic of Chinese porcelain produced specifically for the European export market during the 18th century.

• The brushwork and composition

• The pink geometric rim decoration

• The brown-glazed reverse
