Antique Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Plate – Late 17th Century (Ming–Early Qing Period)

A beautifully preserved example of early Chinese export porcelain, this antique blue and white plate dates to the late 17th century, possibly from the transitional period between the late Ming dynasty (Wanli period, 1573–1620) and the early Qing dynasty (Kangxi period, 1661–1722).

Based on stylistic characteristics, the piece was likely produced in Southern China, possibly in the Zhangzhou (Swatow) region, or as part of early Qing export production.

• Border decorated with coin-shaped motifs (possibly Ch’ien, symbolizing wealth)

• Stylized vegetal elements, possibly Ai ye (mugwort leaves), associated with protection and blessings

Reverse:

• Simple brushwork decoration

• Square underglaze blue seal mark (likely apocryphal or workshop mark rather than imperial)

Condition

Overall condition: Good to very good for its age

• No visible restorations

• Minor age-related spots and firing marks

• Natural wear to the foot rim

• No major cracks or chips visible based on available images

The condition is entirely consistent with genuine late 17th-century porcelain.
