Blue and White Chinese Porcelain Plate in Kangxi / Kraak Style (19th Century)

A decorative Chinese blue-and-white porcelain plate, executed in a 19th-century revival of Kangxi and kraak porcelain, featuring rich panel decoration and scrolling floral vines. This type of plate was produced as a deliberate revival of early Chinese porcelain styles and was made for both the domestic market and export.

The round plate is painted in cobalt blue under a transparent glaze and features a central decoration of flowering scrolls. The well and rim are divided into multiple decorative panels, filled with alternating motifs such as:

• floral ornaments

• geometric patterns

• swastika motifs (a Buddhist symbol of good fortune)

• stylized symbolic forms

The composition has a framing character, with the surrounding panels emphasizing the central motif. The design clearly references the aesthetic of Qing court porcelain from the Kangxi period (1662–1722), though it is executed in a later, more controlled style.

This plate is not early 17th-century kraak porcelain, but a later imitation, which is common and widely accepted within this decorative category.

The condition is clearly better than that of early Swatow porcelain, which is consistent with the later dating.
