Productomschrijving
Decorative Chinese Moon Vase (Moon Flask / Bianhu) made of porcelain, executed in classic Qing style and decorated with powerful dragons in cobalt-blue underglaze. This type of vase is inspired by ceremonial forms from the Qing dynasty and was produced in the 20th century for the export and collectors’ market.
The vase features the characteristic flat, circular form with a narrow neck and two applied lug handles on the shoulders. Both sides display a vivid depiction of a five-clawed dragon among cloud motifs, with a central shou medallion, the traditional Chinese symbol of longevity and prosperity.
Description
The decoration is carefully and consistently executed in deep cobalt blue beneath a clear glaze. The neck and sides are richly adorned with floral and geometric patterns, giving the vase a balanced and dignified appearance. The underside bears a blue underglaze mark reading Qianlong nian zhi (“made during the Qianlong period”), an apocryphal mark commonly used on later pieces produced in a historical style.
