Early 20th Century Virgin del Carmen Statue – Polychrome Wooden Devotional Figure (c. 1900–1930)

A devotional wooden statue depicting Virgin del Carmen (Our Lady of Mount Carmel), one of the most venerated Marian devotions in Catholic tradition.

The Virgin is shown crowned and robed, holding the Christ Child. The Child holds the brown scapular, the defining symbol of Carmelite devotion. Mary wears the traditional Carmelite habit with mantle, emphasizing her role as protector and intercessor.

A metal radiating halo is mounted behind the figure, likely added or replaced during its devotional life.

• Probable Origin: Western Europe (possibly France, Belgium, or Spain)

The style, carving technique, and polychrome finish are consistent with ecclesiastical workshop production from the early 1900s. Such statues were widely used in churches, chapels, and private devotional spaces.
