Russia / Eastern Europe, circa 1880–1920
This wooden religious triptych is a characterful example of an Orthodox home altar from the late 19th or early 20th century. The object combines traditional iconography with a sober, timeworn appearance consistent with prolonged devotional use.
The interior presents a classic Byzantine / Russian Orthodox composition:
Central panel: Christ Pantocrator, with nimbus and Greek letters Ο Ω Ν
Side panels: two saints, likely the Virgin Mary (left) and John the Baptist (right)
The icons are painted or lithographically printed and subsequently varnished. No gold leaf has been applied, indicating a devotional object intended for domestic use rather than a church icon.
