Pair of antique Chinese porcelain plates with bamboo and peony in blue-and-white – Qing dynasty – Kangxi style – ca. 1700–1730 – Ø 23 cm
Bring historical charm into your home with this exquisite pair of antique Chinese porcelain plates from the Qing dynasty. Hand-painted in rich cobalt blue, the floral designs and bamboo scenes are framed by decorative borders. These timeless pieces combine Eastern elegance with European collecting tradition. Whether mounted as wall art or displayed in a cabinet, they make a striking impression. Authentic, decorative, and full of heritage—an exceptional find for lovers of antique porcelain.
Maker or Manufacturer
These plates were most likely produced in Jingdezhen, China’s famed porcelain capital, under the oversight of imperial or export-oriented kilns during the Kangxi period (1662–1722) of the Qing dynasty. The floral and bamboo decorations, combined with the complex rim patterns, point to pieces made specifically for export to Europe via the Dutch East India Company (VOC).
Use and Decoration
These plates were primarily intended for decorative use in European interiors, often displayed in wall cabinets or on stands. The intricate hand-painted scene includes bamboo, peonies, and stylized floral elements, framed by a richly patterned rim reminiscent of lattice and auspicious “wanzi” motifs. Perfect for collectors of chinoiserie, export porcelain, Qing art, or blue-and-white ceramics.
Gift Idea
Looking for a special gift for a wedding, anniversary, housewarming, or birthday of someone who loves antiques or Asian art? These authentic Kangxi-style plates are ideal as a refined and unique present. Their historical significance and decorative appeal make them suitable for both classic and modern interiors. A meaningful and lasting gift for lovers of world culture, porcelain, and craftsmanship.

Collecting & Investment
Kangxi porcelain has long been sought after by collectors. Recognizable pieces with floral motifs and classic decoration—like these—remain stable in value and continue to appreciate, especially export pieces with intact glaze and artistry. Although one plate has hairlines, the pair remains attractive to collectors. Similar items are frequently auctioned at Bonhams, Lempertz, and Catawiki at high prices, particularly with provenance or good display.
Condition
This pair includes two plates, each approximately 23 cm in diameter. One is in excellent condition with minor wear. The second plate shows multiple visible hairlines on both front and back—likely due to age-related tension. These cracks are stable but do affect value. No professional restoration has been done. Both plates are clean, with some glaze wear along the rim. The hand-painted decoration remains vibrant with deep cobalt tones.
