Selected Stories: The Stories Behind the Treasures
At House of History, every piece we collect comes with a story—a story that connects it to the past and gives it new life in the present. Our passion for history goes beyond just collecting; we want to bring you items that have lived through different eras, cultures and personal journeys. Here we share some of the fascinating stories behind our most treasured finds.
- The Victorian Tea Set: A Social Symbol
This elegant tea set, made at the end of the 19th century, is not just a beautiful showpiece. It was a central part of Victorian society and symbolized wealth and hospitality. Organizing a tea ceremony was a ritual, an art form, where etiquette was crucial. The delicate patterns and fine porcelain demonstrate the craftsmanship of the time, while also reminding us of the social structures that were defining at the time. - Art Deco Jewelry: A Statement of Modernism
The beautiful jewelry of the Art Deco period (1920-1930) was more than just fashion—it reflected the cultural shift toward modernism and daring. Women during this time took on new roles, and their accessories reflected their confidence. The geometric shapes, vibrant gemstones and bold designs of these pieces capture the energy of the Roaring Twenties, a time of innovation and liberation. - Mid-Century Furniture: A Revolution in Design
The mid-20th century marked a revolution in design with sleek, minimalist furniture that prioritized function over form. This 1950s Danish armchair, with its clean lines and flowing curves, embodies the Scandinavian ethos of simplicity, comfort and craftsmanship. It represents a break from the ornate styles of the past and ushered in a new era of design that is still admired today. - Vintage Fashion: Style Through the Decades
Our vintage fashion collection is a walk through time. From the flapper dresses of the 1920s to the bohemian styles of the 1970s, each item tells the story of its decade. Fashion has always been a reflection of societal changes, and our pieces provide a glimpse into the changing roles and attitudes of women in the 20th century. For example, the transition from the restrictive corsets of the Edwardian era to the relaxed silhouettes of the 1920s reflects the liberation movements of the time. - Military Memorabilia: Relics of War
Our collection of military memorabilia includes badges, medals and uniforms from various conflicts. Each item represents a story of service and sacrifice. For example, the First World War medals in our collection remind us of the global impact of the Great War, honoring those who served and the important changes the war brought to the world order.

We believe that every piece in our collection is more than just an object—it is a storyteller. By bringing these items into your home, you become part of their journey. Explore our collection and discover the rich stories woven into the fabric of history. At House of History we not only offer antiques, but stories waiting to be continued.

We've been partnering with the Ashton Armoury Museum since 2017. It's a really cool place run entirely by volunteers, and it's located in an active armoury. The museum is all about preserving, showcasing, and sharing historical artifacts related to the units based at Ashton Armoury. They have an amazing collection, including 15 military vehicles, and 11 of them are actually used in local events. They're always looking for funding to keep these vehicles in top condition.
Our relationship started when we donated parts they needed to restore a WWII Dispatch Rider’s motorcycle. Later, when they had items that didn’t fit their collection and needed to sell, we helped them get those pieces in front of a larger audience. We made sure everything sold at fair prices, and the funds went right back into maintaining their collection, especially those incredible vehicles!
If you're into military history, you should definitely visit! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, and you’ll leave with a new appreciation for the service units on display.
