Product Description

This antique oval-shaped pair of eyeglasses with its original cardboard case is a remarkable and authentic example of Dutch optical history from the late 19th century. The set originates from De Lens, a local optician located on Badhuisstraat in Scheveningen.

The glasses feature a thin metal wire frame with hinged temples and oval lenses. The frame is likely made of brass or alpaca (no visible silver hallmarks), which is typical for eyewear from this period.

The original cylindrical case is covered in red paper and still clearly bears the printed inscription:

DE LENS
Opticien
Badhuisstraat 183 A
Tel. 55186
Scheveningen

This local reference makes the object especially interesting from both a historical and regional perspective.
