Product Description

Authentic antique table magnifying glass, dating from approximately 1880–1920, originating from Western Europe. This type of folding reading loupe was commonly used on desks for reading, sewing, needlework, and other precision tasks before the widespread use of electric lighting and modern optical aids.

This is a functional folding reading magnifier with a round glass lens mounted in a wooden frame. The magnifier is adjustable via wooden guide rails and can be folded flat when not in use. The construction is simple, solid, and clearly utilitarian.

The stand and frame are made of solid wood, likely beech or maple, combined with early metal hardware (iron/steel hinges and screws). The black end caps appear to be ebonite or early plastic, consistent with the period.

The overall design is typical of late 19th- and early 20th-century desk magnifiers used in homes, workshops, and studios.
