Product Description

A striking white biscuit porcelain equestrian figure depicting General Jean Marie Pierre Dorsenne (1773–1812), a prominent officer of the Napoleonic era. The name “DORSENNE” is marked on the base, identifying the historical subject.

This sculptural piece portrays a uniformed Napoleonic officer mounted on a rearing horse, wearing a traditional shako (military helmet). The horse stands dynamically on a naturalistic base with molded foliage details.

The underside is hollow, typical of molded porcelain production from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Such Napoleonic equestrian figures were popular decorative works in France and Germany, often produced in biscuit (unglazed) porcelain in a Parian-style finish.

Material

  • White biscuit porcelain (unglazed)

  • Matte surface

  • Hollow base construction

The texture and hollow interior indicate porcelain rather than marble or alabaster.

Dating

Estimated: Late 19th century to early 20th century (circa 1880–1930)

Napoleonic revival subjects were widely produced during this period for decorative and commemorative purposes.

Condition

Overall condition: Good to very good

  • No visible major breaks

  • Light surface discoloration consistent with age

  • Minor base wear

  • No obvious restorations visible

Please note: Small chips to delicate areas (such as ears, sword, or fingers) can be difficult to detect without close inspection.
