Product Description

Delve into the rich history of World War II with this 100% original US Navy "Donald Duck" style flat cap worn by J.M. Hill, who served bravely aboard the USS Lizardfish submarine SS-373. This rare piece of military history is not just a collector's item, but a relic of courage and service.

The hat is in good condition and shows a well-used patina that emphasizes its historical significance. The stitching remains neat, although slightly worn, adding to its authentic charm. The cap proudly bears the name of J.M. Hill, neatly written on the inside, connecting it directly to its distinctive carrier. Acquired from Hill's estate, this cap also comes with preliminary digital research into his service during the war, particularly around Indonesia from January 1945 to the end of World War II. Hill received a battle star for his service, and more research could further illuminate his heroic actions.

History of the USS Lizardfish:
Launched from the Manitowoc River on January 20, 1945, the Lizardfish undertook a perilous journey, towed first across the Mississippi to the Panama Canal and finally to Pearl Harbor. From there it embarked on critical patrols in the South China and Java Seas, engaging enemy ships and enduring the risks of close-range combat, especially vividly described during the July 1945 operations near Bali and the Sunda Strait.
