The poem, entitled "The Carpenter," is a paean to the craftsmanship of the carpenter and emphasizes the importance of careful construction for eternity. The literal text on the panel reads:

The Carpenter
The less is taken care of; didn't think of anything more
So that earthly house can be of use
To cover us for accidents
Just as the very lovable does
What should one then build with diligence
For life will hold an eternal home
When it has to move from here.
