Product Description
Looking for an impressive piece of Chinese history for your interior or collection?
This exceptional plate features a five-clawed dragon—the ancient imperial symbol of power—in stunning underglaze blue. Subtle light green transparent leaf motifs adorn the rim, adding extra uniqueness to this piece. The refinement of the brushstrokes, the design balance, and the sharp glaze quality all point to high-quality craftsmanship. An absolute eye-catcher with both cultural and decorative significance!
Maker / Producer:
The underside of this plate bears a six-character mark: 大清光緒年製 ("Made during the Guangxu period of the Great Qing Dynasty"), indicating production during the reign of Emperor Guangxu (1875–1908). The plate was crafted in Jingdezhen, the historic center of Chinese porcelain.
Use and Decoration:
This plate was likely used as a ceremonial or decorative object. The depiction of the five-clawed dragon surrounded by clouds and flames symbolizes power, protection, and harmony. It is a typical example of imperial-inspired porcelain from the Qing period. Thanks to the beautiful leaf motifs on the rim (executed in semi-transparent glaze), this object is not only historically interesting but also visually very attractive—perfect for display in a cabinet, wall showcase, or elegant tableware collection.
Gift Idea:
Looking for a unique gift for a lover of Asian art, antiques, or symbolism? This Chinese dragon plate is a one-of-a-kind present with a story. Ideal as a birthday gift, anniversary present, or stylish surprise for collectors of porcelain, Oriental décor, or history-related items. With its symbolism of strength and good fortune, it also makes a meaningful gift for a new home or career milestone.

Collecting and Investment:
Porcelain from the Guangxu period is increasingly sought after by collectors, partly due to limited production and high aesthetic quality. The combination of imperial symbolism, decorative finesse, and intact condition makes this piece an excellent candidate for long-term investment. Prices for high-quality items from this era have risen in recent years, especially at auctions in Europe and Asia.
Condition:
In excellent condition: no visible cracks, chips, or restorations. The edges are sharp, the glaze clear, and the decoration well-preserved. Only slight signs of age on the footring underside, typical for objects of this age. A particularly well-preserved example for its time.
